Mental Health
There is no health without mental health. Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
Mental health is a state of well-being in which an individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and is able to make a contribution to his or her community. (World Health Organization, WHO)
What is psychotherapy?
In psychotherapy, psychologists help people of all ages live happier, healthier and more productive lives. Psychotherapy is a collaborative treatment based on the relationship between an individual and a psychologist. A psychologist provides a supportive environment that allows you to talk openly with someone who is objective, neutral and nonjudgmental.
Gestalt Psychotherapy
A gestalt therapist focuses on what is happening in the moment and finding solutions in the present time. Gestalt therapy emphasizes that to alleviate unresolved anger, pain, anxiety, resentment, and other negative feelings, these emotions cannot just be discussed, but must be actively expressed in the present time. By building self-awareness, gestalt therapy helps clients better understand themselves and how the choices they make affect their health and their relationships.
Psychotherapeutic approaches
Effective approaches to therapy are thought to share “common factors”—such as a therapist who treats the client with empathy, a rapport between the therapist and client (sometimes referred to as a therapeutic alliance), and agreement about the goals of therapy. It is common for therapists to develop an integrative approach with a toolbox of skills that draw from multiple approaches. These often include techniques from major therapy types such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) or psychodynamic therapy.
