What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a process that aims to reduce psychological suffering, promote personal development and strengthen the person's ability to face challenges and make conscious choices.

The psychotherapeutic process is developed in the context of a relationship of trust and cooperation between psychologist and patient. The psychologist offers a supportive environment that allows the person to talk openly with someone who is objective, neutral and non-judgmental.

Psychotherapy seeks to support people to:

  • Reduce psychological distress (e.g. feeling less anxiety, fear, shame or sadness),

  • Seek strategies to deal with difficult moments in life, personal, family, or professional challenges,

  • Gain awareness of limiting beliefs, thoughts or behaviors that may be impacting their life and relationships.
