Staff care and MHPSS
Alongside my clinical practice, I work with international and humanitarian organisations on staff care and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS). My work combines clinical expertise with experience in programme development, capacity strengthening, training, assessment and support to teams working in demanding environments.
Staff Care
I provide psychological and psychosocial support to teams and staff working in demanding and high-pressure environments.
My work with humanitarian and refugee-support organisations has included individual clinical support, group-based staff care, critical incident support, training, tailored workshops and retreats, as well as conducting participatory staff care needs assessments to identify necessary supports.
MHPSS Consultancy
I provide consultancy and technical support across different stages of MHPSS work, including:
-
coordination and service mapping
-
MHPSS programme development and strengthening
-
technical review and development of tools and guidance
-
capacity strengthening, training and facilitation
-
psychosocial and mental health mainstreaming within protection and humanitarian programmes.
Humanitarian MHPSS Needs Assessment
I conduct needs assessments to help identify and document the mental health and psychosocial needs of crisis affected communities, identify gaps in existing services and support, and inform programme development and priorities.
These assessments often combine qualitative and participatory methods, including interviews with community members, service providers, partner organisations and government agencies; focus group discussions; field visits and direct observation; and review of existing services and resources.
Recent assignments have included an MHPSS needs assessment in Mexico and a broader health and migration assessment in the Canary Islands, incorporating MHPSS.
